A closer look at the curriculum, the educators behind it, and the coaching gaps it was built to address.
Each competency reflects a real client-facing responsibility trainers are expected to handle well, from creating buy-in to keeping clients engaged over time.
Conducting intake conversations that build trust, surface real goals, and set the foundation for long-term client commitment.
Responding to hesitation, price resistance, and common objections in ways that feel natural — not pushy.
Creating early experiences that confirm the client made the right choice and increase follow-through from the start.
Using language during sessions to coach, cue, and build confidence — not just count reps.
Maintaining the relationship between sessions in ways that feel personal, useful, and easy to sustain.
Recognizing early signs of disengagement and responding before momentum fully breaks down.
Creating sessions that feel more personal, engaging, and memorable — not just technically correct.
Building the habits, coaching behaviors, and relationship depth that keep clients engaged long after the first few months.
Most certifications prove you understand exercise. FBA Certification was built from years of education, industry feedback, and repeated evidence of what trainers are expected to handle but rarely taught clearly enough.

"This is practical education built by people who have coached, led teams, built programs, and helped fitness professionals succeed in the real world."
— Josh Leve, FBA Founder & CEO
FBA Certification did not start as a theory. It emerged from years of seeing the same professional gaps surface across the fitness industry.
Over the last several years, tens of thousands of fitpros and facility operators have engaged with FBA education. Along the way, we collected learner feedback, reviewed recommendation data, tracked which sessions people stayed with, and paid close attention to the topics presenters and industry experts kept returning to.
What surfaced was consistent: the same missing skills kept showing up.
FBA Certification complements technical certifications by strengthening the moments that determine whether knowledge translates into trust, consistency, retention, and career growth.
What the patterns kept showing
Not programming gaps.
Not anatomy gaps.
Coaching gaps.
The moments trainers are expected to handle every day — but are rarely taught clearly enough
FBA Certification Level 1 is self-paced. You can move through the modules on your own schedule, complete the quizzes as you go, and finish when you are ready. Founding Cohort members may also receive early feedback and implementation support during the initial rollout.
When you complete Level 1, you receive FBA Certification, a digital badge and credential recognition, 12 months of active status, education library access, eligible CEC/CEUs, and Founding Cohort recognition if you joined the first cohort. Active certified professionals also receive complimentary access to the FBA Virtual Conference — included as part of maintaining annual active status.
Active status means your FBA Certification is current and recognized. It keeps your digital badge valid, your education library open, and your CEC/CEU eligibility active. You start with 12 months of active status when you complete Level 1. After that, $99/year keeps it current. After 5 consecutive renewals, it's yours permanently at no further cost.
After completing Level 1, you receive 12 months of active status. Before your renewal date each year, you'll receive a reminder email and your $99 renewal fee is billed automatically — no additional coursework required at this time to maintain active status. Complete 5 consecutive annual renewals and you earn Lifetime Active Status: your certification becomes permanently active with no further fees. Ever.
See the full renewal and active status guide →It can help newer trainers, but it was built especially for trainers who already have some technical foundation and want to strengthen the real-world coaching skills they are expected to handle with clients every day.
A CPT proves baseline technical knowledge. FBA Certification focuses on the client-facing coaching skills most trainers are expected to handle, but are rarely taught clearly enough, including assessment conversations, selling, objection handling, onboarding, in-session communication, follow-through, and retention.
You are being certified in the coaching competencies covered in Level 1: the practical client-facing skills that influence trust, buy-in, follow-through, session experience, progress conversations, and long-term retention.
Level 1 includes 12 courses across 4 modules. Because it is self-paced, completion time depends on your schedule, but the structure is designed to be manageable and practical to work through alongside your normal responsibilities.
You receive your credential, digital badge, active status, and access to all included benefits. You can maintain your status through annual renewal at $99/year. Complete 5 consecutive renewals and you earn Lifetime Active Status — permanent certification with no further fees. Level 2 is planned as the next step in the certification path.
If you complete the certification, apply what you learned, and honestly believe it did not make you more effective in the coaching moments it was built for — we'll make it right, including a full refund. No conditions. No hoops.
